Why does John 4:4 appear to be horribly worded
in the KJV compared to other translations?
John 4:3-5 TCENT he left Judea and went away to Galilee. 4But he had to pass through Samaria. 5So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of land that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.
John 4:3-5 BBE He went out of Judaea into Galilee again. 4 And it was necessary for him to go through Samaria. 5So he came to a town of Samaria which was named Sychar, near to the bit of land which Jacob gave to his son Joseph:

John 4:3-5 KJV He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee. 4And he must needs go through Samaria. 5Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
