Malachi 3:16

Study to shew thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15

Two Misunderstood Commands

If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

James 2:8

Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)

Ephesians 6:2

Many seem to miss the salient aspect of the commandments to honor your parents and love your neighbor as yourself. The most important point in the two is that neither of these instructions in life has anything to do with how anyone treated you. God is commanding you on how you are to treat your parents and others, regardless of how they treated you.

Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me:
I will render to the man according to his work.

Proverbs 24:29

You may have horrible parents. It makes no difference. It is like the President; you may hate the man occupying the office, but the office deserves respect. Your parents hold the office of your parents; God requires that you honor the office.

If you can understand this, it will make your life and decisions much easier.
