a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,

Labor Relations

#Business vs #labor has been mostly an unnecessary battle in a war that need not be. Business/management cannot exist without labor. The proper allocation of labor is not an expense, it is a necessary partnership in obtaining prosperity. The battle has ever been over the proper sharing of that prosperity.

The expenditure of wages should not only negatively affect a business, there needs to be a positive aspect as well. A one-sided effect produces tension between parties. The extreme to this is the instability of personnel, strikes, shutdowns, and business relocating. Much of this could be eliminated by the institution of profit sharing.

If a substantial part of earnings emanated from profit sharing, everyone would prosper from the success of a company, all would work toward its prosperity. Financial debates between labor and management should not be viewed as an assault on profits but as a matter of achieving an equitable distribution of them. Any adjustments to the division of profits would be independent of changes in costs or pricing, not as an incentive for such changes but as a neutral factor, with all parties sharing in gains or losses. All benefits to labor come out of profits so there would be a sharing of their cost. This stability is what our nation’s economy should aspire to.
