The Bible, in Leviticus 13:45-46, mandates wearing face masks and practicing what today is called social distancing for people with infectious diseases. So why are evangelical Christians against both?
Some seem to be confused about the precautions that were mandated and why those Christians who knew the Bible and our Constitution were against them.
And the leper in whom the plague is, his clothes shall be rent, and his head bare, and he shall put a covering upon his upper lip, and shall cry, Unclean, unclean. 46All the days wherein the plague shall be in him he shall be defiled; he is unclean: he shall dwell alone; without the camp shall his habitation be.
Leviticus 13:45-46
The commandment is not given to healthy people, but to those who are sick. These are the ones that are commanded to quarantine themselves, cover their mouths, and warn others to stay away. There is nothing in the Scriptures to support the notion that people who are not sick should be forced to do so.
As for the government mandating such, it lacks constitutional authority to do so. If the government can deprive citizens of their rights based on an exigent threat, what is to stop them from making one up or creating one? As the progressive Marxists say: never let a crisis go to waste.
