1 Timothy 2:8-10

Does the Bible say that braids are a sin?

I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. 9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

1 Timothy 2:8-10

It is saying that the vain fascination with style, fads, makeup, fancy apparel, and hair dews, is not supposed to be the occupation of a woman’s mind and time. It does not mean you have to dress in a potato sack or cannot put your hair in braids, or a ponytail, etc. But spending 3 hours and 200.00+ dollars in a hair salon is not what a Christian lady is supposed to do.

You do want to present yourself as a representative of Jesus Christ, not mopping about dressed in rags or looking like you only bath once a week, but you do not want to take it too far and end up chasing the world’s fads and promiscuous styles.

Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 4But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

1 Peter 3:3-4
