And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
2 Corinthians 12:7
The only indication we have suggests that Paul was what we would call legally blind, not totally but very limited. We derive this from his letter to the Galatians.
Galatians 6:11 Ye see how large a letter I have written unto you with mine own hand.
It would appear he was referring to the size of the writing itself, the font. As he praises the Galatians for their faith in that if possible they would have given him their eyes.
Galatians 4:13-15 Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first. 14And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus. 15Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.
This certainly would have been a throne in Paul’s flesh and would have made it very difficult for him to go anywhere or do anything without the aid of others keeping him humble.
