Who is the “The Elect” in 2nd Timothy 2 verse 10?
Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
2 Timothy 2:10
Elect means to choose, the elect are those God has chosen. The question is who has God chosen?
The predestinationist will say the elect were chosen before the world began. That would not be biblically correct. The self-righteous say that those who keep the law are his elect. This too would be biblically incorrect also.
Romans 9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
But, to whom will show mercy?
John 6:39 And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. 40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 3:15–18 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Romans 9:31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. 32Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone; 33As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
The elect are whosoever believeth. Many still stumble at the stumblingstone.
1 John 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
The elect are all those who have believed and all those who shell yet believe of their own free will choice to do so.
