1 Timothy 1:19-20 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: 20Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
1 Corinthians 11:29-32 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. 31For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. 32But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
I would be of the opinion that we at times are chastened of the Lord by inflicting on our flesh. There are three ways the Lord can deal with us: distress our environs, distress our flesh, or distress our mental state. “Many sleep”, means many have died because of their failure to live right. This does not mean anyone lost salvation.
