Study to shew thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15

Are the Gospels Eyewitness Accounts?

Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

Acts 1:21-22

The question arises concerning whether the Gospels were eyewitness accounts. In picking a replacement for Judas, recorded in Acts, the qualifications were that the person chosen had to be a witness of everything from John the Baptist to the ascension. Matthew and John were two of the twelve apostles. Luke states he was a witness to all these things; this is understandable, he being one of the local doctors would have been a leader in the community and might have been treating some of those who were healed.

Luke 1:3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,

If Mark is the same John Mark (I have no doubt that he is) he also would have been witness to the things happening at the time. His mother was one of the disciples whose house Peter went to after escaping jail.

Acts 12:12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.

Most likely Mark’s gospel would have been of later authorship after he had matured in the faith in service with Paul which makes it funny that many “scholars” promote the idea that his was written first. There are those “scholars” that posit that the Gospel of Mark was the first written and the others were late and copied from it. If there were a late written gospel it would have been Mark’s seeing he was a young man at the time and weak in the faith until maturing on the ministerial road with Barnabas.

So you have a choice: believe the Scholars who do not believe the Bible(KJV). However, all the Gospels, except possibly Revelations, were written before 70 AD as the destruction of Jerusalem would have been the greatest historical event of the millennium for the Jews and would have been mentioned in the writings of the books of the New Testament if only to verify Christ prophecy.
