For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 6Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
Ecclesiastes 9:5-6
The context of Ecclesiastes is the physical world, under the sun, or man’s view point. If you remember this you will have less trouble interpreting the book.
We all know we are going to die and from our stand point the dead are just dead, know nothing. They have no more to do with the living. It makes no difference any more what they loved, hated, envied, etc.
