Ephesians 1:3-6

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

Ephesians 1:3-6

Ephesians 1:3–6 constitutes one complete sentence. Anything less than a sentence has no definite meaning. Therefore, everything within a sentence must be interpreted from within the context of the sentence.

The context of the passage is “in Christ”. It is the plan of salvation not individual salvation. All who are “in Christ”, “in the beloeved”, “in him”, are predestinated to certain things: that we should be holy and without blame, and be adopted by God.

God chose that all who would believe him, on Christ Jesus, would be saved from his wrath and predestinated to certain things: the adoption, becoming children of God.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

If you are in Christ Jesus you are accepted by God.

We are predestined to certain things if we reject Christ, and to certain other things if we are in Christ. The plan of salvation, how individuals can be saved not which individual, was predestinated. Christ died to open the door of salvation to all, but each individual must decide to enter.
