Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Ephesians 5:25-27
We may be saved, but we have a lot to learn from God’s word. This is the “washing of water by the word.” We need to read and study God’s word (KJV) and put off the fleshly and put on the spiritual.
Ephesians 4:22-24 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
The only way for us to obey the injunction to be renew in righteousness is by a knowledge and obedience to the word of God.
