Unleavened Faith

A Fellowship In Christ Jesus
In the World, not of the World

All Scripture References are from the Authorized Version 1611 (KJV).

Study to shew thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15

Mark 1:2

As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

Mark 1:2

The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

Isaiah 40:3

Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.

Malachi 3:1

Some argue that Mark took a portion of Malachi 3:1, and just changed the words to fit. Based on this modern versions change the word “prophets” to “Isaiah the prophet” in Mark 1:2.

Mark 1:2 ESV As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way,

This argument is in error. Mark quoted a prophecy that both Isaiah and Malachi had prophesied concerning Elijah. John the baptist was Elijah in type. As you can see below, Mark was not just quoting Isaiah but “the prophets,” just putting the two prophesies together. One more example of why the King James Version is superior to any that change “the prophets” to “Isaiah.”

Mark 1:2 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

Matthew 3:3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

Matthew 11:13-14 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 14And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

Mark 9:13 But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.

Types and similitudes are quite a topic and I cannot think of a way to simply explain them at the moment.

1 Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

John 3:14-15 KJV And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

Numbers 21:8-9 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. 9And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

Look and live.

Hosea 12:10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.
