Why do people seem to confuse “turn the other cheek” with “turning a blind eye”? Can you explain the difference or similarity if any?
Turning a blind eye means to do nothing when you become aware of a need, wrong, or crime, refusing to render aid or be a witness.
Luke 10:30-32 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
The priest and the Levite both turned a blind eye to the man in need.
Turning the other cheek means to suffer abuse and not seek vengeance, or not to seek an eye for an eye.
Romans 12:19-21 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. 20Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
