And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
Genesis 5:24
What does it truly mean to walk with God today and be pleasing to God as Enoch did? The simple answer is that the requirements are the same — nothing has changed in the principles we must follow to please God.
Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
To please God, we must put Christ and His service first in our lives. The Christian life is defined by three things:
- Service
- Sacrifice
- Suffering
We must be willing to make whatever sacrifices are necessary to serve Him, and endure whatever consequences come from that service. We are to read and diligently study God’s word. Even if something we do is right, if it’s not done because God commanded it, it glorifies self rather than God. Anything that does not glorify God is sin.
1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
Isaiah 42:8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
Walking with God requires a boldness that only faith can give. The stronger your faith, the bolder and more steadfast your service will be.
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Walking with God also means we should expect trials and tribulations. Scripture is clear that those who live godly in Christ will suffer persecution.
Philippians 1:29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;
2 Timothy 3:12 KJV Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
1 Thessalonians 3:3-4 That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto. 4For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.
1 Peter 4:13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Remember God’s precepts—“whatsoever is not of faith is sin.” Romans 14:23
2 Timothy 2:3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
Today as every day, it pleases God when we live the godly life of Service, Sacrifice, and Suffering.
