IN the World, Not of the World

All Scripture Reference are KJV
unless otherwise noted

Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.

Malachi 3:16

Study to shew thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15

What does it mean “there is none who does good, no not one”?

Psalms 14:3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Romans 3:12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Ecclesiastes 7:20 KJV For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

You have to consider that sin is in the heart, the thoughts and intents of the heart.

James 1:14-15 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

One has sinned a long time before committing a sinful act and one can sin without committing a sinful act.

Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

None of us are pure in heart and mind. Christianity is the most difficult of religions as it ask that we cease to imagine evil and bring every thought into submission to Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

This ought to bring home the fact that we cannot clean ourselves and need a Saviour. God demands perfect sinless perfection and knowing we could never be that—provided it for us. Now he ask that with this understanding we try harder to live up to the model given us: Jesus Christ.
