a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.

for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

A recent article I read set forth that the opposite of faith was not doubt but certainty.

“Whatsoever is not of faith is sin” is a universal principle in God’s word. Faith is trusting God and His word, no matter what happens. All things fall under His will. Praying in faith doesn’t guarantee that God will answer exactly the way we expect. Sometimes, great blessings come through tragedy.

I once met a Christian man whose eighteen-year-old daughter was killed by a drunk driver. It shook his and his wife’s faith to the core. Two nights before, the family had sat down together to talk about their faith. Their daughter said she loved Christ and wanted to serve Him in any way she could. The accident devastated the parents, as you’d expect. But at her funeral, five of her friends gave their lives to Christ. They were still grieving, but they now saw meaning in her death. She had gone home to be with the Lord, and five of her friends went with her.

Doubt is the opposite of faith. True certainty comes from knowing God is always in control. There are times when the Lord takes everything away to show that all we truly have is Him. When tribulations come, don’t ask “Why?” — bless the Lord and ask “How can I serve the Lord in this?”

Job 1:21 KJV And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.
